Featured is an authentic "Meiji Period" Wedding or ceremonial drum. These drums where used in temple processions and ceremonies and other festive occasions. Dating from the early 1900s, the drum is in excellent condition, and all original. Even the leather stretched hides on each side and nail tacks are original to the piece and it has a rich aged patina. Notice that the "tacks" holding the drum "heads" are also arranged in a 2,1-2,1 pattern. There are also 3 hook and rings to the sides, all made from solid Iron. These would allow the drum to be suspended from cords or robes either from a pole, a marcher's neck or anywhere in a building. The wood appears to be made of paulownia wood, and each piece is hand fitted. The Drum measures 8 3/4" in ht, and is 15" across.
